Luis Pedro Almeida

Luis Pedro Almeida is an oceanographer who graduated from the University of Algarve (UALG-Portugal). He has a master’s degree in Geomatics (UALG-Portugal), during which he did an internship at the Field Research Facility of the US Army Corps of Engineering (Duck, North Carolina, USA), and holds a PhD in Marine Sciences from the University of Plymouth (United Kingdom). He had two post-doctorate contracts at the Laboratoire d’Etudes en Géophysique et Océanographie Spatiales (LEGOS, Toulouse, France), one for the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) and another for the Center national d’études spatiales (CNES). Later he had a Foreign Visiting Professor contract at the Institute of Oceanography, Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG, Brazil), where he taught disciplines related to remote sensing, GIS, and coastal risks. During his career he participated in approximately 15 national and international scientific projects, is the author / co-author of 35 scientific articles, supervised four master’s, three undergraduate and two doctoral students and is a member of GAIGERCO – Group of Integrated Actions in Management Coastal (Brazil). His scientific interests are diverse: 1) Coastal processes and risks; 2) Remote detection and instrumentation; 3) climate change, impacts and “building with nature” solutions. He joined + ATLANTIC CoLAB in January 2021 to develop and coordinate work on the topic Remote Sensing applied to coastal management and coastal risks.
